[Cross-posted from my MovableType Blog]

Is anyone else horrified / distressed / upset / shocked / outraged / I can't even find the words to descibe what I'm feeling at the way the world seems to be pulling itself apart?

Israel is bombing Lebanon.

Somali Islamists have called a jihad against Ethiopia.

Ethiopia has invated Somaila.

Fighting in Iraq and Afganistan continues.

This is not to mention the problems that are on-going in the DR Congo, Uganda, Sudan/Dafur, Tibet, and other parts of Asia, South America, Africa.

And this is just armed conflict. The amount of suffering is staggering when you add in homelessness, starvation, disease and general crime.

*sigh* It's too much. Just too, too much.

Not everyone shares your despair. Some people are tickled pink by what they see.

God-damned (yes, I truly hope so), hypocritical, short-sighted, ignorant, fundie whack-jobs. I wish I could say they'll get what's coming to them.

...I'm not helping, am I?

*hug*

Yes. I have been feeling this way for a while. Now that I think of it it has now offically been a long time. Saturday night was the 5 year anniversary of the riots at the G8 in Genova, and the TV showed some unoffical footage of what happened (they do these news collages in a show called "blob", just about the best thing on TV as far as current events). I had no idea that the italian police shot a demonstrator to death. The crazy in the western world has been going on full bore for about that long.

Lebanon is very close to Sicily. So is Africa in general, and boats full of immigrants/refugees land here by the hundreds every week. Which sucks because it's not like there are a lot of resources to host them all and no one else will have them. It doesn't help that the right-wing says they are all terrorists.

I don't really know how to feel, as I have a feeling that my anger and outrage might add to the crazy that's in the air. I try to be the change that I want to see in the world, but sometimes it's hard.
