[Cross-posted from my MovableType Blog]

Watch out, here I come! I just booked my plane ticket, so it is now official. I am flying to Amsterdam on Sept 24 (arriving the 25). I'll be speaking at the EuroIA Conference Sept 26-27 in Amsterdam.

The next thing on the agenda is UX Intensive Copenhagen Oct 13-16. (Register before the price goes up June 30 and be sure to use the code FOCF to save an extra 15%!)

Sandwiched between those two events is two weeks of lovely, lovely vacation. E and I haven't been on a proper vacation (e.g., one that doesn't involve family and is longer than 3 days) since we went to Maui in 2005.

Right now we are thinking of getting a houseboat for a week+ in Amsterdam and just relax and get to know the city really well. We really enjoyed our short trip there last year. We know we want to take the train to Copenhagen and have a few days there together before E goes home and I go to UX Intensive. But what else shall we do? More time in Denmark? Should we get off the train and explore Germany? We're thinking possibly a few days in Berlin.

The major goal of this time is to relax. We definitely want to see the sights, but it's not going to be a rush-rush-must-see-EVERYTHING kind of trip. It's so exciting!

Ach! C and I will be in Europe from August 16th - Spet 3rd. We're just going to miss you! :-( Enjoy Amsterdam, it's definitely one of my favorite, walkable cities. :-)

So excited that you are coming back here and even more excited that you are dragging E along! If you want a relaxing vacation I recommend considering using Amsterdam as a basis for day trips to some of the other cities in the area. With the trains here it is simple to take a day in another city and then come home to the comfy houseboat. Den Haag is really nice, and Rotterdam has some interesting sites. I also hear that Mastricht is really beautiful. All are easily accessible as day trips and have nice museums. You could also consider a day in Efteling which is the Dutch disneyland. Viola and I had a blast. Not a lot of wreck your body kind of rides more fantasy and fun.

Can't wait to see you guys again!

We are currently thinking of doing just that. A week on the houseboat, slowly exploring Amsterdam and doing day trips. Then taking the train up to Copenhagen and spending a week there doing day trips.

Not sure if we should spend time in Germany, meaning get off the train and explore a bit.

There's also the possibly of making a quick trip to London to hang with a good friend and do some wedding shopping.

So many options!

You're about the fourth person on my friends list with Amsterdam trips planned. I can't say that I enjoyed it all that much. Possibly because I watched two homeless men get int a fight and one knife each other in front of our very swanky hotel. Kind of soured me.

I hope you have a great, relaxing trip and have a good flight, since that is my birthday! :)

Egads. Yes, I can see how such an experience would sour you to the city. I had a swell time when I was there last year. I'll be sure to steer away from knife-welding fighting types. :)
